Just a warning, I'm about to be fairly dramatic---I've gained at least 10 lbs in 12 days of water weight......
As kind of a last ditch effort for my head issues, I have been prescribed the dreaded prednisone. I started the high dose 12 days ago and I'm slowly tapering down. So many people were telling me how terrible it was going to be, how they could only take it for a few days and had to taper off quickly, how moody it made them......I had few problems until around day 8. Of course, it affects everyone differently, but I have experienced this hypomanic state with insomnia. For those of you without a psychiatric diagnosis, this is the closest you may get to what bipolar feels like! However, I've found that this pseudohypomania is much less fun than a purely natural chemical induced mania. On prednisone, every other night I can't sleep......and it's a perfect cycle. I sleep until midnight, and stay awake until 4. Then get up for school at 5:30. And the most interesting part (no wonder your body is retaining all this water and feeling so shitty) is that I'm not tired. Now, in my experience, mania/hypomania is a much more crash and burn type of process, leaving a few days of a burst of energy with a bodily exhaustion happening around day 3.5. Prednisone is kind of a prolonged hell.
As someone who was working out quite hard and regularly for the past 2 months, this 10 lbs (and I think I'm underexaggerating here, as I haven't weighed myself) of water (my stomach is literally a waterbed consistency ---TMI???) is not really a good mental health booster. In fact, I eat less, and gain more, and can't sleep.
and the best part is my headache/migraines are the same. Joy.
In other news, Jeff and I signed on for a new apartment. We'll be moving in July, and you can bet you will find a new slew of interior design posts. If you were super annoyed with them before, I can't imagine how you're going to feel from my posts in the upcoming months - Be warned as I have 1400 new sq ft to play with and all the student loan money in the world to burn (kidding on that part....)
Also, Jeff got a great job! He is working for the USPS and I think is really enjoying it (at least he tells me he is). He has great hours, interesting duties, and gets to meet a lot of the community members, which I think will be nice for him.
I have some AWESOME PROJECTS I have been working on. With all this roid energy, I find I need outlets so as not to go crazyyyyyy. Pics to come as soon as I can focus enough energy on one to finish it ;).
Here are some pictures from the last few weeks.
First, a dramatic selfie as I was working late into the night at St. Mary's....
And did I mention I have an awesome boyfriend who bought me a purple club set? We have enjoyed golfing over the past two years together, but I always mooched off of his set. He swears he had to buy them because they were on sale. ;).
MORE SOON. -I have some great new study tips I'll share with ya'll because those seem to be a big hit for the #premeds.
